Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By installing, accessing, or using the CommentScope browser extension ("the Extension"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install or use the Extension.

2. Description of Service

CommentScope is a browser extension that extracts publicly visible comments from Instagram posts and reels, and exports them as CSV and/or JSON files. The Extension offers two modes:

Page Mode: Extracts comments from the Instagram page you are currently viewing.
URL Mode: Extracts comments by making authenticated requests to Instagram's web API using your existing browser session.

All processing occurs locally in your browser. No data is transmitted to CommentScope's servers.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use this Extension. By using the Extension, you represent that you meet this age requirement.

4. User Responsibilities

4.1 Compliance with Instagram's Terms

You are solely responsible for ensuring your use of this Extension complies with Instagram's Terms of Use, Community Guidelines, and any other applicable Instagram/Meta policies. CommentScope does not guarantee that using the Extension is permitted under Instagram's terms.

4.2 Lawful Use

You agree to use the Extension only for lawful purposes. You will not use the Extension to:

Harvest personal data for unsolicited contact, spam, or harassment
Stalk, intimidate, or harass any individual
Violate any person's privacy rights
Engage in any activity that violates applicable local, state, national, or international law
Scrape data for the purpose of training machine learning models without proper consent
Sell or commercially redistribute raw extracted data without proper authorization

4.3 Data Responsibility

You are solely responsible for how you store, use, share, and dispose of exported data. Exported files may contain personally identifiable information (usernames, profile URLs, comment text). You must handle this data in accordance with applicable privacy laws, including but not limited to GDPR, CCPA, and any local data protection regulations.

4.4 Rate Limiting and Access

Instagram may rate-limit or restrict access if too many requests are made in a short period. You acknowledge that:

Excessive use may result in temporary restrictions on your Instagram account
The Extension includes built-in delays to respect rate limits, but cannot guarantee prevention
CommentScope is not responsible for any restrictions Instagram places on your account

5. Intellectual Property

5.1 Extension

The Extension's source code, design, and branding are the property of CommentScope. The Extension is provided under an open-source license — see the repository for license details.

5.2 Extracted Data

CommentScope makes no claim of ownership over data you extract. The comments, usernames, and other content belong to their respective authors and to Instagram/Meta per their terms. You are responsible for respecting the intellectual property rights of comment authors.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE EXTENSION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WITHOUT LIMITATION, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Extension will function without interruption or errors, will be compatible with future versions of Chrome or Instagram, that all comments on a post will be extracted, that extracted data will be 100% accurate or complete, or that Instagram will not change their platform in ways that break the Extension.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COMMENTSCOPE AND ITS DEVELOPERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: loss of data or profits, account restrictions or bans imposed by Instagram, inaccurate or incomplete extractions, any action taken by third parties based on exported data, or service interruptions caused by platform changes. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE EXTENSION SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE EXTENSION (WHICH IS ZERO FOR THE FREE VERSION).

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CommentScope, its developers, and contributors from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from your use of the Extension, your violation of these Terms, your violation of any third-party rights, or your use or misuse of exported data.

9. Account Security

The Extension accesses Instagram on your behalf using your existing browser session. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Instagram account, understanding that the Extension acts with your account's permissions, and logging out of Instagram if you wish to revoke the Extension's access.

10. Modifications to the Extension

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Extension at any time without notice. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation.

11. Modifications to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page and on the Chrome Web Store listing. Your continued use of the Extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Extension at any time by uninstalling it. We reserve the right to terminate or restrict access to the Extension for users who violate these Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer resides, without regard to conflict of law principles.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and CommentScope regarding your use of the Extension.

16. No Affiliation

CommentScope is an independent tool. It is not endorsed by, sponsored by, or affiliated with Instagram, Meta Platforms, Inc., or Facebook. Instagram is a trademark of Meta Platforms, Inc.
