CommentScope ("the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains what data we access, how we process it, and what we store.
CommentScope offers two extraction modes:
When you click "Extract Comments" while viewing an Instagram post, a script reads comments from the visible page, processes them locally in your browser, and exports them to CSV and/or JSON files on your device.
When you paste an Instagram post URL, the extension makes requests to Instagram's web API from your browser. These requests use your existing Instagram session (via browser cookies) to authenticate — the same way your browser does when you visit instagram.com. Comments are fetched, processed locally, and exported to your device.
In both modes, all processing happens locally. No comment data is sent to any external server.
The extension reads: comment text, usernames and profile URLs, timestamps, and reply/thread structure.
In URL mode, the extension reads your Instagram csrftoken cookie to authenticate API requests. This is functionally identical to your browser visiting instagram.com.
We do NOT:

These values are overwritten at the start of each extraction and are not persisted between sessions. Storage location: Chrome's local storage (stays on your device).
None. We collect no analytics, no usage data, no personal information. We don't even know how many people use the extension, which posts you extract comments from, or how often you use it.

None. The extension does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, or external APIs. The only network requests are to instagram.com — using your own browser session.
We don't share data because we don't collect data. The only "data sharing" that occurs is you downloading the CSV/JSON files created locally. The files stay on your device. You control where they go.
Since all processing happens locally in your browser, your data never leaves your device (unless you manually share the exported files). There are no server-side vulnerabilities and no third-party data breaches possible.
The extension does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13. Since we collect no data at all, this is inherently compliant with COPPA.
This extension is designed to only access publicly visible comments, respect rate limits, and not abuse Instagram's platform.
User Responsibility: You must comply with Instagram's Terms of Service. Only extract comments you have permission to access. Use extracted data responsibly and legally. You are solely responsible for how you use exported data.
Since we collect no personal data: no data processing occurs on our side, no data controller/processor relationship exists, and no data subject access requests are needed (we have no data).
We do not sell your personal information because we don't collect personal information, we don't share data with third parties, and everything is local.
We may update this privacy policy. Changes will be posted on this page and on the Chrome Web Store listing. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
